Kevin McCafferty
Partner, The Newcastle Network
Kevin has over 20 years of experience as an investor, operator, and entrepreneur, and his enthusiasm for the consumer industry began when he served as the COO of Superior Cake Products, an extension of his investment role at New England Capital Partners.
Kevin directs the investment process at Newcastle, leveraging his expertise in deal diligence, execution, and sourcing. He designed our investment stage-gate process, which organizes and governs how we identify consumer brands for investment, the approach we take to pursue those companies, and ultimately how Newcastle engages with and assists its portfolio companies.
Previously, Kevin was a Principal at Yellow Wood Partners, a consumer-focused private equity firm. He received his AB from Harvard and his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, where he graduated as a Tuck Scholar with high distinction.
What's your "why"?
I love the social and tangible nature of consumer products because I love delighting consumers and seeing their passion for our products. When I was running Superior Cake Products, I bumped into someone in my building who had just come back from Costco and was eating our Madeleine cookies in the elevator. It was an instant reminder of the magic of consumer investing.
Can you describe an experience of working at Newcastle that was particularly meaningful or memorable?
When we first met the Kizik team on our initial visit to their Utah office, we were shown a prototype of a hands-free boot model. I was blown away by the sophistication of Kizik's technology as my foot magically slid into and out of this high-top boot. At that moment, I fully grasped the magic of Kizik's products and the exceptional talent of the team.
If you could instantly become an expert in anything, which would you choose and why?
Comedy. I enjoy connecting with people through joy and laughter.
What's the last thing that made you laugh out loud?
My kids, especially my youngest, make me laugh out loud every day!
What's a hill you're willing to die on about something completely trivial?
There are many sports rules that I strongly believe should be changed. For example, in baseball, it’s a waste of time for a batter to be allowed to run to first base if the catcher drops the third-strike pitch.
