David Parnes

Chief Operating Officer, CAMP

David has spent more than a decade as an entrepreneurial operator, building teams and operations for disruptive omni-channel consumer businesses. His expertise includes team development, supply chain design, logistics, systems architecture, product development and scaling innovation.

Currently, David is the Chief Operating Officer at CAMP, a national retail chain of family experience stores that combine play, merchandise and theater. Before joining CAMP, David launched BuzzFeed’s Commerce division, which helped the company massively diversify revenue. He was a co-founder of Homesick Candles, which was acquired by BuzzFeed in 2007. He also led and scaled bobble, a global filtered water bottle brand with distribution in over 40,000 retail doors and 25 countries, until its acquisition by Seventh Generation.

What do you appreciate about being a collaborator at Newcastle?
The core of my partnership with Newcastle is that we both are passionate about innovative and growing consumer businesses. I appreciate their openness to new ideas, the value they place on the collaborator network, and the diverse talent they've been able to attract. 

If you could instantly become an expert in anything, which would you choose and why?

Swiss German. My wife’s family is from the German-speaking part of Switzerland, and my kids are learning the language. I’d love to join them.

What was your childhood career dream and how different is it from what you’re doing now?

Back in high school, I was buying and selling goods on eBay, and I’ve always had a passion for trade and supply chain. I believe I’m living my childhood career dream.

What's your most controversial food opinion?
Ketchup is basically just red sugar and doesn’t belong on anything.
